Tequila is a produced in Mexico exclusively from a plant called Agave tequilana.
The different types of Tequila According to aging
Tequila Blanco (ou Plata, Silver)
Not aged or aged for less than 2 months in stainless steel vats or neutral barrels.
Pure agave taste, often used for cocktails (such as the Margarita).
Tequila Reposado
Aged between 2 months and 1 year in oak barrels.
Woody aromas, rounder and sweeter than Blanco.
Tequila Añejo
Aged between 1 and 3 years in oak barrels.
Darker, rich in aromas (vanilla, caramel, spices).
Tequila Extra Añejo
Aged for more than 3 years.
Very complex, often compared to an old cognac or whisky.
Made only with sugar from the blue agave.
More quality, often noted on the label.
Mixed Tequila
Contains at least 51% blue agave, the rest being other sugars (cane, corn).
